American Optical

For almost two centuries, American Optical has been pioneering groundbreaking technologies and shaping the optical world with some of the most iconic sunglasses models. The philosophy: uncompromising standards, true craftsmanship and 100% Made in USA. Founded in 1833, the company has lived through major events in world history and paved the way in ophthalmic optics. For example, American Optical invented the panto shape and sent the first sunglasses to the moon.

In 2019, the brand made a new start. Original construction plans were translated for state-of-the-art construction techniques and revive classics. Models such as the Flight Goggle 58, better known as the ORIGINAL PILOT, and the SARATOGA, once worn by John F. Kennedy, have been reintroduced to the portfolio.

There is also big news at American Optical in 2024: the launch of the corrective frames. The collection is a perfect symbiosis of classic and contemporary designs with a variety of metal and acetate finishes. Unlike retro-inspired eyewear labels, American Optical offers the original: The designs come from the brand's own archives. The models were also used in the Oscar-winning historical film “Oppenheimer”.
